About Me

I was born and raised in Houma, Louisiana, deep in bayou country, with a gaggle of aunts, uncles, and cousins. I spent afternoons at my grandmother's house where my cousins and I played Spades, got too close to the bayou, and cheated at Monopoly.

My first foray into storytelling was a best seller… among my fellow sixth graders at St. Francis de Sales Elementary. The assignment was to write a short story. I wrote a romance called “Love in Paris,” complete with a pink construction paper cover embellished with stars. Everybody––except Mrs. Dupre and the nuns––loved the skinny dipping by moonlight scene. I loved everything about the feeling of making up a story, a world, that people couldn’t stop talking about. Needless to say, I was bitten by the writing bug.

I received my bachelor’s degree in drama and communications from the University of New Orleans and a Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Sarah Lawrence College. Since grad school, I’ve worked as an advertising copywriter and creative director while juggling fiction and essay writing.

My lifelong passion for words and stories has fueled my 20-year advertising career, sparking the meticulous copywriting and expert creative direction that brings brand messaging to life.

My debut novel will be published by Pantheon Books (The Knopf Doubleday Group).
